US President Donald Trump said that in his opinion the war in Iran is nearing its end, DPA reported. Trump expressed this opinion in an interview with "Fox News", excerpts of which were published in advance, BTA reported.
„I think the war is nearing its end. Yes. I mean, I see it as very near its end“, Trump said.
Trump added that if the US withdraws now (from the conflict), Iran will need 20 years to recover. „And we are not finished. "We'll see what happens," he said, adding that he believed Iran was willing to reach an agreement.
Trump had previously made vague statements about a possible new round of talks while a two-week ceasefire in the conflict is currently being observed, DPA reported.
"Something could happen in the next two days" in Islamabad, he said in a telephone interview with the "New York Post", without providing further details.
The first round of talks between the United States and Iran in the Pakistani capital ended without an agreement last weekend. Unconfirmed media reports indicate that a new meeting could take place as early as Thursday.
In an interview with ABC, Trump also said that he had no intention of extending the ceasefire with Iran, Reuters reported. He said reaching a deal with Iran was preferable because otherwise Iran could regain its strength.
