Lebanon insists on full Israeli withdrawal as condition for agreement - 1

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said that the country will not sign any agreement if it does not provide for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, the NNA news agency reported, BTA reports.

He categorically opposed the creation of a “buffer zone“ or any form of continued Israeli presence, stressing that this would hinder the return of displaced people and the reconstruction of the country.

The statement was made after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. According to Salam, the US-mediated negotiations aim to use Washington's influence in the process.

The Lebanese prime minister also emphasized the need for the state to maintain a monopoly on weapons, noting that progress is being made in the disarmament process and the implementation of security measures.

According to him, this process is gradual and is closely related to the strengthening of the Lebanese armed forces.
