Iran has warned that ships that pass through the Strait of Hormuz in violation of the imposed rules may be subject to restrictive measures, including fines, detention or confiscation, reported “Reuters“, quoted by BTA.
The warning was published on the social network “Ex“ by the Iranian body established to manage the Strait of Hormuz. According to the message, the measures are aimed at ensuring compliance with navigation requirements in the Persian Gulf.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important sea routes for global energy supplies. Therefore, the new warnings increase the risks for owners and operators of vessels using the waterway.
New list of restrictions
The Iranian Persian Gulf Strait Authority has called on cargo owners to check an updated list of ships that do not meet the requirements for navigation in the area.
The list may also include vessels that are involved in ship-to-ship cargo transfer operations or transhipment with other ships that do not comply with the established rules.
Thus, Tehran is placing under stricter control not only the direct passage through the strait, but also some of the operations related to the transportation and transfer of cargo.
How the restrictions can be lifted
The Iranian authorities indicate that ships whose names appear on the list of restrictions will be able to request their deletion them.
To do this, owners or operators must submit a formal request to the Iranian maritime authorities, accompanied by the relevant explanations.
