Import duties into the United States on all cars and trucks, auto parts and steel will be increased to 50 percent from January 1, 2027, US President Donald Trump said today after the failure of negotiations with Canada, BTA reported.
"Make in the USA and THE TARIFFS ARE ZERO. Canada will no longer be treated as a country", Trump wrote on the social network "Truth Social".
„In terms of trade, and in other aspects, they are among the most difficult countries in the world to work with. They think they have a right to everything, but in fact WE DON'T NEED CANADA, AND THEY DO FROM US!“
White House officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Washington and Ottawa failed to reach a trade deal late on Friday, with each side blaming the other, and Canada preparing to impose tariffs on some American goods in response to 50 percent tariffs imposed by Trump on other Canadian products.
Canada is at war with the United States, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said. “We are not prepared to compromise Canada's sovereignty and undermine our key industries,” he added.
