The United States must desist from irresponsible statements that carry the risk of unpredictable escalation. This was said by the Russian ambassador to the USA, Anatoly Antonov, quoted by the TASS agency.
This is how the diplomat responded to statements by high-ranking officials in Washington that Russia must be dealt a strategic defeat in Ukraine.
„The US administration must refrain from irresponsible statements that are fraught with risks of unpredictable escalation. It is obvious that [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky's regime is in agony,” Antonov said.
„This is further confirmation of the involvement of the American armed forces in a conflict thousands of kilometers from America, a conflict that has a detrimental effect on Washington's prestige, power and influence on international security,”, the Russian ambassador said.
The full-scale war that Russia launched unprovoked against Ukraine in February 2022 is now in its third year. Kiev desperately needs the $60 billion in military aid that has been blocked in the US Congress by Republicans for months. Zelensky himself admitted that Ukraine may lose the war if it does not receive this support from Washington, and immediately.
Against this background, Russia carried out another massive attack against the Ukrainian energy infrastructure last night. "The enemy is again attacking our energy infrastructure," Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said in Telegram. Attacks target "production facilities and power transmission systems" in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporozhye and Lviv regions. For several weeks, Russia has been bombing Ukraine's energy infrastructure, particularly in the Kharkiv region, causing power outages. The capital city of Kiev is also subject to regular enemy attacks.
