Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2007-2009) Volodymyr Ogryzko said , that China needs Russia as a second-rate, dependent, half-dead partner. Therefore, it is wrong to expect that Beijing will change its attitude towards the war in Ukraine.
Ogryzko told telegraf.com.ua that it is not logical for China to suddenly want to get rid of such a vassal as Russia. And economic dependence automatically leads to political dependence – this is exactly what is being observed now between Beijing and Moscow.
„Another reason is that these two countries are already ideological twins. In China there is totalitarianism, in Russia there is not just totalitarianism, but also Russian fascism, which is now demonstrating all its “charm” in front of the world“, Ogryzko said.
„And when I read that the United States is turning to China with a request to influence the Russian Federation (about the war in Ukraine), it seems not just comical, but even humiliating for a country like the United States,”, the Ukrainian diplomat believes, according to there is a lack of leadership in the US right now.
China feels comfortable with such a weakened partner as Russia fighting against the “hated West”. We have to get used to the fact that China will support Russia, Ogryzko said. He also pointed out that in the so-called “Chinese peace plan” for Ukraine, there are no specifics and steps to stop the war, only empty slogans.
