The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Singapore yesterday to participate at the "Shangri-La Dialogue" security conference, calls on countries in the region to participate in the peace conference in Switzerland in the middle of this month, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The Ukrainian head of state wrote last night on his channel in the application "Telegram" that he met with the newly elected president of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and with the president of East Timor Jose Ramouche-Horta to invite them to the forum called by him "summit for peace". The conference is scheduled for June 15 and 16 in the Bürgenstock resort complex near the Swiss city of Lucerne.
DPA notes that upon his arrival in Singapore, Zelensky announced his meetings with leaders such as Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Event organizers announced that the Ukrainian leader will speak today at the forum, which is attended by hundreds of ministers, defense chiefs and military experts, mostly from Southeast Asia. The event was organized by the London-based think tank MISI (International Institute for Strategic Studies).
According to Singaporean media quoted by DPA, on the sidelines of the conference in Singapore, Zelensky hopes to meet Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun in an attempt to convince China to participate in the peace meeting in Switzerland. On Friday, Beijing announced that it did not intend to send a representative there.
