Seven soldiers were killed in an attack in the national park "Penjari" in the northern part of Benin by suspected Islamist fighters, Reuters reported, citing BTA, citing two security service officials and two diplomatic sources.
The Benin soldiers were killed in an ambush, two of the sources said, adding that the attack took place near the town of Tangieta.
Benin's northern neighbors are conflict-ridden Burkina Faso and Niger, making the African country vulnerable to cross-border attacks by al-Qaeda-linked groups. and "Islamic State".
Benin's army has not officially announced the incident on Tuesday and has yet to respond to a Reuters request for comment.
