Record heat: July 21 becomes hottest day on record - 1

Sunday, July 21, was the hottest day ever recorded globally, preliminary data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service show. of the European Union, reported "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.

The global average surface air temperature on Sunday reached 17.09 degrees Celsius - slightly higher than the previous record set last July when it was 17.08°C.

Heat waves have hit large parts of the United States, Europe and Russia over the past week.

"Copernicus" confirmed to Reuters that the record average daily temperature set last year appeared to have been surpassed on Sunday, according to their records, which date back to 1940.

Each month since June 2023 - a total of 13 consecutive months - has ranked as the planet's hottest compared to the corresponding month in previous years, Copernicus said.

Some scientists suggest 2024 could overtake 2023 as the hottest year on record as climate change and the natural El Niño weather phenomenon, which ended in April, pushed temperatures even higher this year .
