The defending champion team of the USA dramatically defeated Serbia with 3:2 (25:17, 25 :20, 20:25, 14:25, 17:15) in a match of group "A" at the women's Olympic volleyball tournament, BTA reported.
The American women led 2:0, but the world champion managed to get to a tiebreak. In it, the game went evenly and point for point, but the USA congratulated itself with a final success at 17:15.
The American team had the upper hand in blocking, while the Serbians were stronger in attack and in the kickoff.
Andrea Drews scored 16 points for the USA, while Tijana Boskovic scored 31 points for Serbia.
In the standings, both teams have one win and one loss and are in first and second place in the standings so far. The remaining teams in the group, China and France, have each played one match less.
In group "B" at the tournament in the French capital, Poland prevailed 3:0 (25:14, 25:17, 25:15) against Kenya.
The Poles were better in all elements and finished the match in just over an hour.
Most points in favor of "Polish team" - 13, noted Natalia Medrzhik. Pamela Owino finished with 14 points for Kenya.
Poland is in first place in the group standings with two wins. The Kenyan women are in last place in two consecutive defeats.
