ISW: Kremlin not giving up advance in Donetsk region, Ukrainian operations in Kursk region on the backburner - 1

Russian forces are maintaining a relatively high pace of advance in Donetsk Oblast, indicating that the Russian military command continues to prioritize progress in eastern Ukraine, even as Ukraine puts pressure on Russian forces in the Kursk region.

This is stated in the daily analysis of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Ukrainian forces are reportedly using Western-supplied equipment in Kursk Oblast, but are still limited in their ability to strike Russian military targets inside Russia with Western-supplied weapons.

Ukrainian officials are taking steps to consolidate and coordinate management of ongoing Ukrainian operations in Kursk Oblast while continuing to highlight Ukrainian achievements.

Russian military bloggers claim that Ukrainian forces continue to advance in some areas in Kursk Oblast amid a generally slower pace of Ukrainian operations in the area.

The Kremlin and the Russian military command are creating a complex, overlapping and so far ineffective command and control structure for Russia's response to the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk Oblast.

The delayed creation of a sophisticated Russian structure in Kursk Oblast continues to highlight the fact that the Kremlin has failed to plan for the possibility of a significant Ukrainian incursion into Russia.

The Kremlin appears to have a more coordinated approach to securing its control over the Russian information space than to solving its military and Kursk problems.

The Kremlin is probably trying to hastily create a new information space dominated by co-opted Russian military bloggers and established Russian state propagandists.

Ukraine is organizing the creation of a humanitarian corridor to evacuate Russian civilians affected by the ongoing operation in Kursk, thus filling the apparent vacuum left by the administration of Kursk Oblast and fulfilling international legal requirements for the evacuation of civilians population.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that on the night of August 13-14, Ukrainian forces successfully carried out drone strikes on Russian air bases in Russia.

Recently, Russian forces confirmed their advance in the direction of Pokrovsk and Toretsk.

On August 15, the Russian government introduced a bill to lower the age for admission to the Russian Voluntary Society for the Assistance of the Army, Aviation and Navy of Russia from 18 to 14.
