A Russian volunteer corps fighting on the side of Ukraine today called on Russian soldiers who are under threat of capture, to go over to the opposing side or surrender instead of committing suicide, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
"Your political instructors sitting in a warm back room say you should blow yourself up with a grenade instead of being captured," wrote on the "Telegram" app. the organization "Freedom for Russia" Legion. She remarked that it is better for a man to survive than to die for a medal.
The Legion also encouraged Russian conscripts to defect to Ukraine and "fight for a normal future for Russia".
"We are ready to communicate with anyone who expresses a desire to take up arms against the Kremlin," the statement also reads.
Ukrainian armed forces are advancing into southern Russia's Kursk region, where they made a surprise incursion on August 6. As part of the offensive, the heaviest battles are being fought on the territory of Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, DPA notes.
