Pope Francis called today in Singapore to "protect the dignity of workers from abroad" ; and "guaranteeing them fair remuneration" during a speech before senior representatives of the government, civil society and diplomatic missions, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.
The head of the Roman Catholic Church is on a two-day visit to this part of Asia.
"I hope that special attention will be paid to the poor, to the elderly (...) and to the protection of the dignity of workers from abroad, who contribute a lot to the construction of society and who must be guaranteed fair remuneration" ;, he declared.
About 300,000 migrants work in Singapore, mainly from South Asia, notes AFP.
