UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is in Kazan for the BRICS meeting – a visit that, according to the deputy editor-in-chief of German newspaper BILD Paul Ronzheimer, can only be described as "a disgrace to the free world”.
"The UN Secretary General is a disgrace to the free world. He refused to invite Ukraine to negotiations, but he allows Putin to invite him and, of course, accepts his invitation. He refuses to be outraged by the terrorists "Hezbollah", Iran, Hamas, but he is outraged by Israel almost every day. Why do we need such a UN Secretary General? Why such a UN? Why are values presented there that have less and less in common with the values of the free world? When will our chancellor and our foreign secretary say we are no longer involved?" - writes Ronzheimer indignantly.
In Kazan, the Portuguese was welcomed by the president of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhamechin, and was treated to traditional bread.
During the summit, Guterres will hold a number of bilateral talks, including with the head of state of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. This will be the first such meeting between the two held on Russian territory since April 2022.
