Western countries should be concerned about the capabilities of the Russian military, which is constantly learning from his mistakes on the front in Ukraine. This is something that should concern us.
This was stated by Lt. Gen. Charles Costanza, commander of the US Army's Fifth Corps, in an interview with VOA. The corps is located in Poland.
According to the American military, it is wrong to think that NATO should be calm, that the Russian army is weakened because it lost a huge amount of its soldiers in the war against Ukraine. On the contrary – first, the Russian army is now more numerous than at the beginning of the invasion. And second, Russia does not care how much human resources it will lose, Costanza said.
„The Russians know they are fighting Western-trained and equipped (Ukrainian) forces. So as they modernize based on the lessons they learn - not only in terms of their equipment, but how they fight - they really sharpen their ability to fight us in the future. And I think that's something we have to worry about,”, Costanza said.
In his words, on the frontline in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin's army is learning every day how to defeat Western-trained soldiers and Western weapon systems. Moreover, Moscow shares these lessons with China and Iran, and vice versa.
North Korea has sent at least 4,000 of its troops to Russia to date, and this is just the starting point, the US general said. “The challenge for Ukrainians is people. That's the amount of people they have to put into battle. And Russia does not care how many losses it will suffer. I mean, 600,000 [casualties] and they're still throwing more manpower not even blinking. Ukrainians cannot afford to take these losses”, Kostanza said.
