7 NATO countries are against the admission of Ukraine - 1

Seven NATO countries are against the possibility of Ukraine being accepted into the international organization for military cooperation, POLITICO reported.

The US and Germany have already publicly announced that it is currently unrealistic for Kiev to hope for entry into the Alliance. Hungary and Slovakia are also against this scenario, with their leaders maintaining pro-Russian positions and maintaining close relations.

It is interesting, however, who the other three countries are: according to the publication's sources, they are Belgium, Slovenia and Spain. Until now, they are “hiding“ behind the position of Washington and Berlin and do not express their views openly, but if the debate about Ukraine's entry intensifies, they will veto.

Kiev submitted its accession application in September 2022, and in July 2024 the alliance confirmed Ukraine's “irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership” — although Ukraine has not received final news about its future accession, The Kyiv Independent recalls.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine's membership in NATO is a key point of his “plan for victory” in the war and only thus can the security of his country be guaranteed. However, NATO does not want to accept a country that is at war, and against a nuclear power.
