If Russian forces continue to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure and these attacks are successful, blackouts of up to eight hours may be introduced this winter, Ukrinform quoted acting chairman of the Board of Directors of Ukrenergo Oleksii Brecht, writes BTA.

"The worst case scenario involves continued attacks on our facilities and power generation. In such a case, in the presence of electricity imports, we may have to introduce power restrictions on cold days by implementing two rounds of scheduled power outages,”, Brecht said.

He explained that each round involves a four-hour power outage. So at worst there could be outages of up to eight hours during the cold weather.

"We are working on the assumption that it will not be possible to completely destroy all heat and water production facilities. A concrete plan for active protection has also been developed," Brecht emphasized.

According to him, in other scenarios "energy workers will not be in the center of attention" this winter. However, there may be specific problems in frontline regions.

"At the moment, the enemy has turned his attention to the border areas, where active fighting is taking place. This affects six regions where the focus has shifted from our production facilities to the distribution system,” Brecht said.
