In a spontaneously convened press conference, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehamer addressed the population of the old town about the information that from tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. the Russian company "Gazprom" stops deliveries to Austria, reports BTA.
With the suspension of gas supplies by Russia, "what we have been preparing for since the beginning of the war in Ukraine has come true," Nehammer said during a press conference broadcast on Austrian radio and TV ORF. The Austrian oil and gas concern O Em Vi (OMV) received compensation of 230 million euros for irregular gas supplies from "Gazprom" according to a decision of an arbitration court, after which the Russian company announced that it would stop supplying gas to Austria, explained Nehamer.
He emphasized several times that the Austrian concern had prepared for such a situation: "No one will freeze in winter, not a single apartment will remain cold".
The chancellor stressed that all the necessary measures have been taken: "Our gas storages are full and we have sufficient capacity to receive gas from other regions." He explained the situation in detail, saying that local gas storage facilities are currently 93 percent full. "These are the annual supplies for the whole of Austria,", noted Nehamer.
"We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed by the Russian president! We will not allow Putin to bring us to our knees!", was categorical the Austrian chancellor, who also pointed out that he informed the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen about the situation and received her full support.
