The FBI has arrested a man from Florida in connection with a plot to detonate a bomb at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the BBC reports. Harun Abdul-Malik Yener is accused of attempting to use an explosive device to damage or destroy a building used for interstate commerce, as quoted by News.bg.
According to information from the FBI, there is a recording in which the man states that he feels like Osama bin Laden – mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. Yener has been under investigation since February after authorities received a tip that he was storing bomb-making materials in a warehouse.
Federal agents searched a warehouse in Coral Springs and found bomb-making blueprints, numerous timer clocks, circuit boards and other electronics. According to FBI information, Yener told an undercover agent that he was planning the attack the week before Thanksgiving, which this year falls on November 28.
The investigation found that Yener's motivation was the idea of a "reboot" of the United States government. In addition, Yener maintained a YouTube channel where he posted instructional videos on making explosives from household materials.
Abdul-Malik Yener, a resident of South Florida, is currently homeless, the FBI said.
