There is no reason to suspect criminal activity! Damaged Finland-Sweden data cables restored - 1

Two cables have been restored data transfers between Finland and Sweden, which were interrupted on Monday (December 2), the company "GlobalConnect" announced today. (GlobalConnect), quoted by the Associated Press, writes BTA.

"GlobalConnect" reported that cables feeding internet networks were down at two different locations in southern Finland. The first damage occurred on Monday morning, and the second - a few hours later.

The damage affected 6,100 of the company's customers, including 100 companies, "GlobalConnect" states. It is among the leading corporations in Northern Europe in the field of building telecommunication networks and data centers, DPA specifies.

"The first cable was restored last night, during which we were able to launch the Internet connection to 95 percent of all our customers,", a spokesman for "GlobalConnect" said. He added that by midday on Tuesday the second cable had also been fixed and "all customers should be able to access the internet again.

Finland announced today that the disruption of the two fiber optic internet cables "is believed to have been caused by construction work and is not a criminal act,", DPA notes.

"There is no reason to suspect criminal activity in the two incidents involving damaged cables,", the Finnish police said in a statement.

Security services and police in northern European countries are on high alert after two undersea fiber optic communications cables were cut in the Baltic Sea in November. It is believed that these cases are about possible sabotage, DPA notes.
