Due to the deliberate obstruction of the Israeli army, only 12 trucks have been able to distribute aid to civilians in Gaza in the past two and a half months, SIR (Servizio Informazione Religiosa) reported, citing “Oxfam“.
In the past 75 days, only 34 UN trucks carrying food and water for the population have entered the northern part of the strip, but due to the deliberate obstruction of the Israeli army, only 12 trucks have been able to distribute aid to civilians.
The contents of three of them were delivered to displaced people who took refuge in a school, which was then evacuated and bombed within a few hours.
In the beginning In December, aid agencies working in Gaza received calls from people trapped in homes and shelters who had been left completely without food or water.
Children and women rummaged through piles of garbage in search of food, bare-handed, shoeless, at risk of illness and exposed to the threat of unexploded bombs. Gaza now has the highest number of child amputees in the world, with virtually no healthcare and very limited supplies of medicines, including anaesthetics.
To make matters worse, winter conditions are expected to affect more than 1.6 million people camped in makeshift shelters, including half a million exposed in flood-prone areas. So far, only 23% of the displaced have received the necessary assistance to protect themselves from the rain and cold, over 900,000 are completely unprepared.
At most, the majority of the population can barely afford to buy meager quantities of vegetables. Even securing a piece of bread can be an insurmountable task.
