Record low birth rate in Slovenia - 1

In 2024, only 16,706 children were born in Slovenia, which is about 100 children less than in 2023 and is the lowest birth rate in the country so far, the Slovenian National Institute of Public Health announced.

These data confirm the trend of decreasing birth rates in the country. With the exception of 2021, the number of births in Slovenia has been decreasing since 2010. The lower number of births is also associated with a decrease in the number of women of childbearing age.

The largest decline in births was recorded in Celje and Postojna, while the number of births increased the most in the capital Ljubljana. Home births during the year totaled 29, which is 25 fewer than in 2023.
