About 45,100 Ukrainians died in the war with Russia. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his interview with Piers Morgan, parts of which appeared earlier in the evening, UNIAN reports.
The president also revealed the number of wounded. According to him, it is about 390,000 cases.
"There are people who were wounded, but then returned to the front line and were wounded again.", he specified.
He added that the exact number of Ukrainian defenders captured by the war remains unknown. We are talking about thousands of people.
Thousands of people are also considered missing during the fighting. It is not known exactly what happened to them.
We recall that Moscow and Kiev exchanged hostages several times, as well as reunited families.
Based on open data, the BBC, together with the publication "Mediazona" and a team of volunteers, as of January 2025 have identified 80,973 Russian soldiers who died during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The publications make their count based on public information and observations of cemeteries. Even according to the publication itself, this is not the actual number of victims.
The Russian command does not report data on the number of its victims and wounded in the "special military operation". In fact, only in the last 2-3 months has information about the dead begun to leak into the public domain, primarily within the framework of announcements about celebrations, including the celebration of Victory Day, May 9, for which Russia has been preparing since the end of the first month of the year.
"Mediazone" also reported a record number of claims for recognition of Russian citizens as missing, which were filed in 2024 - 20,000.
Zelensky also criticized the famous American journalist Tucker Carlson, calling on him to stop being a Kremlin propagandist.
Zelensky would also agree to direct negotiations with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to end the almost three-year war, although Moscow does not consider it legitimate.
Asked how he would feel if he sat down opposite Putin at the negotiating table, Zelensky said: "If this is the only scheme in which we can bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine and not lose people", stating that there would be four parties to the meeting, without specifying the participants. Morgan had previously spoken of hypothetical negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, the EU and the US.
