The electricity supply in the Iberian Peninsula has been almost completely restored, DPA reported, BTA reported.

The Spanish network operator REE said that as of 6 a.m. this morning, electricity supply in the country had been restored to 99.16%. In neighboring Portugal, electricity has also been restored to most households, Portuguese television RTP reported, citing Portuguese network operator "E-Redes". About 95% of the 6.5 million consumers in the country have electricity again.

Millions of people in Spain and Portugal were left in the dark yesterday after power was cut, communication networks were disrupted, traffic lights stopped working and elevators were blocked.

In a televised address last night, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez promised that power supply would be restored by today. The prime minister did not say what caused the incident and added that no options had yet been ruled out.

Against this backdrop, it was reported that remote regions of Greenland have lost access to key satellite services, including internet and telephone, telecommunications companies from the Arctic island reported, quoted by Reuters. The operators added that they would investigate whether the outages were related to the power outage that affected large parts of Spain.

Greenlandic telecommunications company "Tusas" (Tussass) announced that it had lost contact with satellite equipment located in Spain, which provides telephone, internet, television and radio services. Remote villages in Greenland were affected, although it is not yet known how many people were left without their necessary connections.
