Pakistan to nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize - 1

Pakistan will nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in resolving the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani government said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

Trump has previously said he dreams of receiving the award, the agency recalls.

Some analysts in Pakistan said the move could prompt Trump to reconsider joining Israel in striking Iran's nuclear facilities. Pakistan condemned Israel's actions as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.

In May, Trump abruptly announced a ceasefire, ending a four-day conflict between nuclear powers India and Pakistan. Since then, Trump has repeatedly claimed to have averted a nuclear war, saving the lives of millions of people, but has also complained that he has not received any credit for it.

Pakistan has agreed with the US president that US diplomatic intervention ended the fighting, but India says it was an agreement between the armies of the two countries.

"President Trump has demonstrated great strategic foresight and statesmanship through decisive diplomatic work with both Islamabad and Delhi, which has led to the de-escalation of a rapidly deteriorating situation," Pakistan said.

"This intervention is a testament to his role as a true peacemaker," the government in Islamabad added.

Governments are entitled to submit nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.

So far, neither Washington nor Delhi have commented on Pakistan's intention to re-appoint Trump.
