Following the US strikes against Iran, the State Department has warned American citizens not to travel to Turkey, the Haberler website reported. The warning includes a total of 22 districts in the southern and eastern parts of the country, which are recommended not to travel due to a risk to the security of American citizens, BTA reported.
“Exercise caution due to regional events in Turkey, avoid travel to the southern and eastern regions“, the State Department statement said, Haberler noted.
It is strongly recommended not to travel, especially to the area of the Consulate General in the southern district of Adana.
The NATO Incirlik Air Base is located near Adana. Malatya is also among the provinces where travel is advised to be avoided. The Kurecik radar base is located near Malatya.
A protest rally was held in Malatya last week against the possible use of the base for strikes against Iran. US diplomatic staff in Turkey are also advised not to undertake long-distance travel.
