Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen is calling on Israel to carry out regime change in Iran, which runs counter to the official Israeli line, the Times of Israel reported.
"I would recommend to the prime minister and the enlightened world... to seize this phenomenal opportunity that we have to bring about the complete fall of the regime," Cohen said in an interview with "Channel 12".
"I think the intelligence on that exists," the expert hinted.
Cohen says Iran has "a huge people, an intelligent and modern nation that wants to with democracy, and I think we should put that opportunity in their hands - only if we can complete this mission and completely eliminate the Khamenei regime."
Cohen said that "to the best of my knowledge," the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites overnight "have succeeded in completely stopping the Iranian nuclear program, certainly at this stage."
He accused the Biden administration of "wasting years" not to confront Iran and thanked the Trump administration for its actions.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar have said that regime change is not part of Israel's plans in the current operation, although they have suggested that it would be welcome.
