Viktor Orban: I stopped Ukraine's accession to the EU - 1

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the results of the so-called “referendum“ held in Hungary have managed to stop Ukraine's accession to the European Union, Telex reports, quoted by Focus.

Orban emphasizes that although he is against the country's accession to the EU for the time being, Hungary understands the Ukrainians and sees their heroic struggle.

"We also see that they need help, but we want to help in a way that does not destroy us. Ukraine's membership in the EU would mean that we would destroy ourselves. We would be immediately drawn into a war with Russia and would bring it to the territory of the EU, and therefore to the territory of Hungary,“, the Hungarian Prime Minister believes.

Furthermore, Orbán stated that “yesterday, after we received over 2 million votes on Voks2025, we stopped Ukraine's accession to the EU“.

According to him, in the context of Ukraine's membership in the EU, it is not a question of the distant future, but of an “immediate threat“.

At the same time, he stated that Ukraine remains an “undefined entity“ through no fault of its own.

“We don't even know what Ukraine is today, where its borders are. This danger existed in other countries of the former Soviet bloc as well. That is why they were admitted to NATO first, because NATO could guarantee these borders. And only then did the EU admit other relevant countries,“ Orbán said.

He added that in his opinion the Ukrainian side cannot be admitted to NATO, as this would mean immediate war.

We recall that earlier the Hungarian government announced the results of the so-called “referendum“ on Ukraine's accession to the EU and stated that 95% of those who voted in it were “against“.
