The Israeli air force carried out massive airstrikes in the mountains near the town of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, with the Israeli military saying the attack was aimed at underground facilities of the Hezbollah militant group, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
A short time later, an apartment building in the town of Nabatieh was also hit, killing one woman, wounding 11 people and destroying the top floor of the building, the Lebanese state news agency reported.
It is not yet clear whether the strike was aimed at anyone inside the building.
Since the 14-month war between Israel and Hezbollah Since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire ended in November, Israel has carried out almost daily strikes in southern Lebanon, the AP notes. Today's strikes were more intense than usual.
Lebanese President and Prime Minister condemned the Israeli strikes, saying they violated the ceasefire agreement.
The airstrikes in the mountains near Nabatieh used bombs to destroy bunkers, the Lebanese National News Agency reported. It added that four people were slightly injured in the strikes outside the city.
The Israeli military said its fighter jets hit a site from which Hezbollah coordinated its fire, as well as a defense system that was part of a major underground project that has been completely dismantled.
Hezbollah has not yet commented on the strikes.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, “Hezbollah“ is not allowed to maintain an armed presence south of the Litani River in Lebanon. Today's strikes were in areas north of the river, the AP notes.
