The Kremlin welcomed the news that the US has stopped the supply of some weapons to Ukraine, and said that the less weapons Washington supplies to Kiev, the closer the end of the war is, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
“As far as we understand, the reason for this decision is empty warehouses, the shortage of these weapons in warehouses. In any case, the less weapons are supplied to Ukraine, the closer the end of the special military operation“, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, quoted by TASS.
The Pentagon has stopped the supply of some anti-aircraft missiles and other precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to fears of depletion of its own stocks, two officials familiar with the matter told Reuters yesterday.
A senior Ukrainian lawmaker called Washington's decision "painful" for Kiev's efforts to defend itself from Russian air strikes, which have intensified in recent weeks.
A Kremlin spokesman said on Monday that it was France that requested a phone call between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin after a break of nearly three years and that the two leaders had a "very substantive" discussion.
The two leaders spoke on Tuesday and discussed the Iran-Israel conflict and the war in Ukraine, the first such conversation between the two presidents since September 2022. Peskov said the conversation lasted more than two hours.
When asked whether Macron had signaled his readiness to discuss the terms of a peaceful settlement to the war in Ukraine in light of the new realities of the field, the Kremlin spokesman answered negatively.
“No, it didn't, there was an exchange of views, but quite detailed. This was a good opportunity to clarify the positions between the two leaders,“ said Peskov.
