After the Big Beautiful Bill! Elon Musk Rekindles Idea of New Party

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has spoken publicly for the first time since President Donald Trump signed the budget bill known as "One Big Beautiful Bill" into law.

On Friday, Musk took to his social media platform X to once again raise the possibility of creating a third party to compete with the two main ones - Democrats and Republicans - in United States politics.

""Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say one-party) system! Should we create a party "America"?" Musk asked his followers, using an interactive poll.

Musk said both major parties have fallen out of favor with what he describes as the "80 percent in the middle" - a number he says represents moderates and independents who don't align themselves with either end of the political spectrum.

His desire to form a new party, however, came after a public spat with Trump over "One Big Beautiful Bill" - a sweeping piece of legislation that passed both houses of Congress on Thursday.

Once again on Friday, Musk reiterated his objections to the bill, albeit indirectly. He echoed Senator Rand Paul's criticism that the bill "explodes the deficit in the short term," responding with a retweet and the "100" emoji, expressing his full agreement.

"A big, beautiful bill" has long been a policy priority for Trump, even before he returned to office for a second term on January 20.

His goal was to pass a single piece of legislation that would include several key pillars of his agenda, allowing him to move forward with his goals without having to seek multiple approvals from Congress.
