Moscow Mayor: Russian Air Defense Destroys Ukrainian Drones Targeting Capital - 1

Russian air defense shot down four Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow, the mayor of the Russian capital said, as quoted by Reuters. At the same time, one of Moscow's main airports temporarily suspended outbound flights. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said emergency services were at the sites where the drones were shot down, but did not specify whether there was any damage, BTA reports.

The Defense Ministry reported that 94 drones were destroyed in the skies over Russia overnight.

Meanwhile, the Russian aviation administration "Rosaviatsia" reported that outbound flights from Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport were temporarily suspended before later being canceled. According to the administration, this was due to "restrictions" over the capital's airspace, as well as strong winds. Inbound and outbound flights at airports in several other Russian cities were also temporarily suspended, including at "Pulkovo" airport in St. Petersburg.

Meanwhile, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky, warned of a possible new Russian offensive in Ukraine's Kharkiv region. "I have devoted two days to working with units in the Kharkiv region," Syrsky wrote in a post on the "Telegram" app. He said he spent the time talking to commanders, studying the situation and the needs of the troops there. "The Russians are trying to push with numbers, but we must be ready to use appropriate tactical and technological solutions to prevent the Russians from advancing," said Sirsky.

This summer, Russia has been slowly pushing its way through Ukrainian lines along several parts of the front line, sending in continuous waves of infantry, seeking to exploit its advantage in men and ammunition. In recent months, Russian forces have already entered the northern Ukrainian region of Sumy, Reuters notes.
