A series of earthquakes shook Guatemala on Tuesday afternoon, causing alarm among residents and authorities. According to Reuters, the national seismological institute registered a main earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 in the southern part of the country, about 60 kilometers from the capital Guatemala City, News.bg reports.
The initial quake was followed by a wave of secondary earthquakes with magnitudes between 3.9 and 5.6. Despite the strength of the tremors, there are currently no reports of serious damage or injuries.
The National Disaster Response Agency has recommended that residents evacuate public and private buildings as a precaution in case more aftershocks occur.
Authorities remain on high alert and are urging citizens to follow official announcements and remain calm.
