The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Germany of wanting to participate in Ukrainian attacks deep into Russian territory, shortly after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told parliament today that diplomatic means to end the war in Ukraine have been exhausted, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
“Behind all this verbal smokescreen lies a poorly concealed desire by the Merz government to also participate in strikes deep into our country“, said the ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, quoted by TASS.
Zakharova was referring to Merz's statements regarding the possible delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, which has been fighting the Russian invasion.
The spokeswoman added that Berlin does not take into account the fact that the use of Taurus missiles against targets on Russian territory would constitute Germany entering into conflict with Moscow.
Last week, the German Chancellor took part in a talk show, where he again stated that the weapons system would be operated not by German, but by Ukrainian soldiers.
Unlike his predecessor Olaf Scholz, Merz has repeatedly stated in the past that he is ready to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
