Over 100 people drowned in France in one month - 1

The French state public health agency reported that from June 1 to July 2 this year, over 100 people drowned in France, which is 58 percent more than the same period last year, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

The main reason, according to authorities, is the unusually hot weather, especially in late June. A total of 429 drownings were recorded in France during the month, a 95% increase on last year.

"This sharp increase coincides with a period of high temperatures in the second half of June 2025, when many people wanted to cool off in swimming areas," the agency said in a bulletin.

A large part of Europe, including France, was gripped by an intense 10-day heatwave, which meteorologists declared over on July 2. Statistics show that the heatwave caused the deaths of around 2,300 people in 12 European cities.
