The Israeli army said on Monday that dozens of Israeli citizens had crossed the border with Syria and entered the area of the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

According to the army, the Israeli citizens had shown violence against the Israel Defense Forces, who were trying to disperse a gathering of people in the area overnight.

The Syrian Interior Ministry announced earlier today that Syrian internal security forces were starting to deploy their personnel in the Sweida area after several days of fierce fighting. Syrian Interior Ministry spokesman Nour al-Din al-Baba said the operation was aimed at protecting civilians.

"Security forces will use all available resources to end the violence, stop the armed clashes and restore stability in the region," Baba told the official Syrian television "Al-Ekhbariya".

In Sweida province, where the majority of the Druze minority live, fighting is taking place between Druze factions and Sunni Bedouins.

The Syrian presidency has declared an "immediate and comprehensive" ceasefire in the province and called on all parties to the conflict to stop fighting and respect the ceasefire.
