Moscow was hit by another serious flood on Monday - the second in a week - after torrential rains and thunderstorms swept through the Russian capital on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

According to meteorologist Yevgeny Tishkovets, by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, 33% of the average monthly rainfall had been measured in the VDNKh area. In some parts of the city, especially in the northwestern districts and Zelenograd, the amount of rain reached between 47 and 91 mm - close to or above the norm for the whole of July (85 mm).

Social networks were filled with footage of flooded streets, underpasses and parking lots. Cars drove through deep water, and pedestrians waded through flooded underground walkways. In some areas, rainwater carried away soil and scattered it on the roads.

Moscow's transport department warned of possible disruptions on major arteries, including the Moscow Ring Road and the Third Ring Road. In the Naro-Fominsk district of the Moscow region, a collapsed bridge left three settlements without access. In Moscow, the Shelepihin embankment was temporarily closed.

A yellow weather warning is in effect until 9 p.m. on Monday. Local thunderstorms, hail and strong winds with gusts of up to 15 m/s are expected. Forecasters predict rain until noon.

Authorities have urged residents to stay home if possible and use the metro instead of private cars. Drivers have been warned to avoid risky areas and to exercise caution.
