German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said on Monday that recognition of the Palestinian state should be the final point of the negotiation process to achieve a two-state solution, but at the same time stressed that this process must begin immediately. This was reported by Reuters, BTA reports.
“A negotiated two-state solution remains the only way in which people on both sides can live in peace, security and dignity“, Wadeful said in a statement released shortly before his visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories.
According to him, for Germany, recognition of Palestinian statehood must be the result of successful negotiations between the parties. "For Germany, this will be more like the end of the process. But the process must start now," the minister added.
Vadeful also warned that Berlin would react to any unilateral steps that could jeopardize the prospect of a peaceful solution.
