A train carrying over 200 passengers crashed into a fallen tree in northern Germany this morning, as a result of which rail traffic between Hamburg and Neumünster was stopped for several hours, DPA reported, BTA reported.

The incident occurred near the village of Wrist in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, and according to police, the tree was knocked down by strong winds. The driver noticed an object on the tracks and activated the emergency brake, but despite the long braking distance, the train hit the tree.

No passengers on the regional express, which was traveling from Hamburg to Kiel, the capital of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, were injured. People were taken to the nearest station after the power was cut off and the overhead line was grounded. The route remained closed for several hours.
