US President Donald Trump announced that he would significantly increase tariffs on goods from India over its purchases of Russian oil, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
In a post on the social network "Truth Social" Trump wrote that "India not only buys huge amounts of Russian oil, but also sells much of the oil it buys on the open market to make big profits".
According to the US president in Delhi "they don't care how many people in Ukraine are killed by the Russian war machine".
That's why I will be significantly increasing tariffs on India, Trump said, without disclosing details about the specific amount of the planned import tariffs on Indian goods.
Last week, President Trump said he would impose a 25 percent tariff on goods imported from India, adding that the country would also be penalized with an unspecified fine.
Over the weekend, two Indian government sources told Reuters that India would continue to buy oil from Russia despite Trump's threats.
