Three people were shot and eleven were injured in a shooting early this morning at a crowded nightclub in the American metropolis of New York, the Associated Press reported.
According to investigators, one or more shooters opened fire with multiple weapons at the "Taste of the City Lounge" in the "Crown Heights" neighborhood of Brooklyn, after an "dispute" shortly before 3:30 a.m. local time (10:30 a.m. Bulgarian time), killing three men, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters.
“This is a horrific shooting in New York City,” she said at a news conference, adding that an investigation is underway into at least 36 shell casings found at the club, as well as a firearm found on a nearby street.
Those injured in the shooting - eight men and three women - were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, she said. The victims ranged in age from 27 to 61.
This year, the number of gun violence incidents in New York City is at a record low, Tisch noted.
"I mean, seven months into the year, we have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims that we have ever recorded in New York City," she noted.
"Something like what happened today is an exception, thank God. It's terrible that it happened this morning, but we are investigating and we will get to the truth about what happened," the police chief said.
