Three F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft that Romania bought from Norway landed today at the 86th Borcea Air Base and will enter service with the 571st Fighter Squadron. at the Mihail Cogalnicanu Air Base, Agerpres reported, citing a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, BTA reported.
The fighters join the F-16s already in service with the Romanian Air Force and will contribute to strengthening Romania's air defense capacity, the statement said.
The batch of aircraft that arrived today is part of a contract signed between the Government of Romania and the Kingdom of Norway for the purchase of 32 F-16 aircraft, along with initial logistical support and an additional package of goods and services supplied by the United States Government.
So far, 21 aircraft have been delivered, of which 16 constitute the 48th Fighter Squadron at the Campia Turzii base, and five will become part of the 571st Fighter Squadron at the Campia Turzii base. at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base.
The delivery of the entire lot is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, the agency said.
