US President Donald Trump has announced the imminent imposition of significant import tariffs on goods from semiconductor and microchip manufacturers that don't have manufacturing facilities in the United States.

„We're going to impose tariffs on companies that don't come into the U.S., it's going to happen pretty soon. We're going to impose tariffs, not very high, but quite significant. "It's worth understanding that if they come into the country, build or plan to come into the United States, then there will be no tariffs on them," he told reporters at the White House.

On August 6, Trump said that Washington intends to impose import tariffs of about 100% on microchips and semiconductors, noting that technology companies that manufacture equipment in the United States will not have to pay tariffs.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order implementing the US-Japan trade agreement, which provides for lower tariffs on imports of Japanese cars and other goods, announced in July, the White House said, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

"Under the agreement, the US will apply a base tariff of 15% on almost all Japanese goods imported from Japan into the United States, along with a separate, sector-specific treatment for cars and automotive parts, aerospace products, generic pharmaceutical products, as well as natural resources that do not occur in nature or are not produced in the United States," the decree said.

The lower tariffs on Japanese cars imported into the United States will take effect 7 days after the decree is published. Part of the tariff relief is retroactive to August 7.

Trump's decree also means that the reduced US tariff on Japanese cars from the current 27.5% to 15% will take effect by the end of this month, Reuters noted, citing a Japanese government official.
