A young child has been admitted to intensive care in Germany after accidentally swallowing drugs left on a playground, DPA reported, BTA reported.
After tests, he tested positive for cocaine, amphetamine and ecstasy, police said today. The incident occurred on Monday in the northern town of Wolfenbüttel, near Hanover.
The 18-month-old child was at the playground with his mother and another child. Later, his father arrived at the scene and noticed that he was acting strangely, showing signs of apathy, loss of appetite and unusual attachment to a toy.
Later, during a car ride, the child vomited a "plastic-like" material. He was taken to hospital, where blood tests revealed that he had taken drugs. His life is not in danger.
It is not yet clear how much drugs he had ingested. An additional blood test is due to be performed to confirm and quantify the substances.
Authorities immediately closed the site. The search, which also involved dogs trained to detect drugs, did not find any other substances. Access to the site was then restored.
