Polish farmers have once again blocked the movement of Ukrainian trucks through the Medika-Shegyny checkpoint on the border with Ukraine, the State Border Service of Ukraine (SBSU) reported.

„Today at 12:50 p.m. Polish protesters blocked traffic in front of the Medika checkpoint,“ the border service said in a message on its Telegram channel. The protest action is taking place 1 km from the Polish checkpoint.

Traffic restrictions apply to trucks, and the blockade may last more than 6 hours. Currently, 681 trucks are waiting in line to leave Ukraine and enter the country, and about 100 are waiting to enter the country.

Polish farmers have been holding similar protests against trucks with agricultural products from Ukraine entering their country for several years, since the European Union granted Kiev the right to import goods duty-free into the EU from the spring of 2022. Against this background, protesters have repeatedly pointed out that allowing Ukrainian agricultural products to enter the EU market without quotas harms domestic business.

In 2023-2024, tariffs were renewed and suspended several times as a result of protests by farmers in neighboring countries due to the oversaturation of their markets with Ukrainian products. On June 6, the European Union resumed the application of all quotas and duties on agricultural exports from Ukraine.
