A 4.9-magnitude earthquake was registered in the Turkish province of Balikesir, the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) announced on Sunday.
„The 4.9-magnitude earthquake occurred at 12:35 p.m. The epicenter was located near the town of Sindirgi in Balikesir province, and was at a depth of 7.7 kilometers, the agency's seismologists reported.
In turn, seismologists from the Kandili Observatory estimated the magnitude at 5.1, and the depth of the epicenter at 13.7 kilometers. The tremors were also felt in western Istanbul.
One person was killed and 29 injured after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Sindirgi on August 10, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said earlier. The tremors were felt in several neighboring provinces, including Istanbul.
