EU calls for bird flu vigilance - 1

There is no cause for alarm, but bird flu vigilance is required. This was announced this week by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control and specified that disease viruses continue to circulate, albeit at low levels, among wild bird populations in Europe.

"We are closely monitoring the current bird flu situation, both in the European Union and globally. This threat to human health should not be underestimated and it is important to stay alert and be proactive," stressed the new director of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control Pamela Rendy-Wagner, quoted by BNR.

In the US, transmission of bird flu between dairy cows has been observed, and four cases of the virus have been reported among farm workers since April. Transmission of the virus from animals to humans remains rare, but it can affect wild or domestic animals, livestock, leading to infections and outbreaks among birds and sometimes mammals, the center explains.

There is currently no recorded human infection with avian virus in the European Union and the European Economic Area. However, it is important to raise awareness among healthcare professionals about how to act if they detect a case of the virus in a patient, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control states.
