Four times a day, traffic will be completely stopped on the Trakia Motorway towards Sofia near Vakarel, in the section not under repair - between the 24th and 33rd kilometers, the Road Infrastructure Agency reports.

From Tuesday to Thursday, four times in the afternoon - at 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, the movement of all vehicles traveling from Plovdiv to Sofia will be completely stopped for about 30-45 minutes. During this time, only traffic from the capital to Plovdiv will pass in the Sofia lane, which has three lanes.

„The goal is to allow for and regulate traffic when a column of cars forms. We appeal to drivers to allow more time for travel, to observe road signs and the introduced temporary organization of traffic, as well as to adjust their travel time to the introduced time restrictions“, specify the RIA.

We recall that due to the repair work in the 9-kilometer section of the Burgas lane, traffic has been completely transferred to the Sofia lane.

„To increase throughput, it is also possible to drive in the emergency lane. Drivers must drive carefully, at a reasonable speed and not undertake risky overtaking that endangers the safety of all other travelers. During peak hours, when many people set off at the same time, a line of cars forms and movement is slower," the RIA points out.

The data analysis shows that the most intense traffic is between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the section of the “Trakia“ motorway in the Sofia region. On average, 1,200 vehicles have passed through the section per hour in the direction of Plovdiv in recent days, with a throughput capacity of the route under repair of about 900 vehicles per lane, and in the direction from Plovdiv to Sofia, 1,100 vehicles, with a throughput capacity of 700 vehicles per lane.

Citizens traveling to and from Plovdiv can also use alternative routes - the Sub-Balkan road I-6 Sofia - Karlovo, as well as the Ihtiman road - Samokov. At the discretion of the “Traffic Police“ additional traffic regulation measures may be introduced.

From October 9, Thursday, repairs will begin on the Burgas lane 10 km from the “Trakia“ motorway in the Stara Zagora region. Construction and installation works will be in the section between km 208 and 218. Traffic will flow in both directions on the Sofia lane, with one lane in the direction of Burgas and one lane in the direction of the capital.
