Next year, the price of the ticket for public transport in Sofia will undergo a symbolic reduction, announced the chairman of the BSP in the Sofia Municipal Council and head of the transport committee Ivan Takov in the studio of “The Day Live” on NOVA NEWS.
“The BSP group has been insisting on this for several months. We are joining the club of the rich, we accept the euro, but citizens are concerned about inflation and price increases. That is why we want to show that the municipality thinks about the people“, he commented.
According to him, the ticket, which now costs 1.60 leva, will be rounded down, not up, after the introduction of the euro. “When we do the recalculation, the amount comes out to about 82 euro cents, but the price will be 80 euro cents. All transport documents will be recalculated in the same way – with rounding down“, Takov specified.
The loss for the municipality from this decision is expected to be minimal – about 1-2 million leva, which the Center for Urban Mobility can compensate. “This is the normal attitude towards people“, he emphasized.
The leader of the BSP group in the Sofia Municipal Council Ivan Takov sharply criticized Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev for the garbage crisis in two of the largest districts of the capital – “Lyulin“ and “Krasno Selo“. “A Sofia municipality cannot be governed with slogans. People expect solutions, not infantile excuses for evil forces and mafias,“ he pointed out.
According to him, the order for garbage collection was “incompetently made“ – without a maximum price and with a delay of one year.
“You can't start a procedure in April after the contracts expired in March. Then wonder why there is no one to clean“, he also commented. Takov pointed out that the crisis could have been avoided if the municipality had started investing in its own company “Sofekostroy“ a year ago, to build capacity and equipment.
“Now they are making excuses that there are no trucks and staff. This is ridiculous. We called for equipment to be bought, people to be hired – nothing was done“, added the municipal councilor.
Takov also criticized the absence of Mayor Terziev from the meeting of the Ecology Commission, where he and his deputy for ecology were invited to present an action plan. “After two and a half hours of debate, we realized that there was no plan. This is the most worrying“, he said.
According to him, if measures are not taken, in December Sofia may remain not only buried in waste, but also in snow, since there are no ready-made contracts for winter cleaning.
The BSP will insist on investments in the municipal company and for the mayor's administration to assume responsibility. “A capital city municipality is not an elementary school. The mistakes of this administration are costly to all Sofia residents“, summarized Ivan Takov.
