Officially, the Judicial College of the Supreme Judicial Council elected Judge Marinika Cherneva as Acting Head of the Supreme Administrative Court.

The decision was made unanimously with 9:0 votes.

This happened after a week ago, during a three-hour debate, it was decided to ask the judges in order of seniority who they wanted to hold the position. During the consultation, Judge Cherneva was the first to agree to take the position.

She has over 36 years of legal experience, of which 20 years as a judge in the Supreme Administrative Court. From December 1991 to March 1999, she was a judge in the Sofia District Court. From March 1999 to January 2005, she was a judge at the Sofia City Court, after which she was appointed to the Supreme Administrative Court.

Judge Cherneva was the head of the eighth department of the Supreme Administrative Court from 2010 to 2012, and from 2012 to 2018, the head of the fourth department. From May 2018 to the present, she has held the position of head of the First Chamber and deputy chairperson of the Supreme Administrative Court.

However, changes to the Judiciary Act, which were adopted at the beginning of the year, prohibited the same person from holding the position for more than six months. This period expired on July 21.
